A ‘Groundbreaking’ Time for a Historic Site

15 February, 2019

Shovels hit the ground for Titan Union this week, making it the first revitalization project to break ground in Union, NJ’s Union Center Special Improvement District. The 63,500-SF mixed-use redevelopment is an adaptive reuse of the historic Union Center National bank. Bohler provided civil engineering, permitting and landscape design services for the project.

Typical of a downtown urban environment, the site was designed with a zero lot line. Bohler’s team incorporated porous pavers for pedestrian walkways and perforated piping underground to maintain existing stormwater runoff rates and minimize impact to the City’s stormwater system. Both materials allow runoff to filter into the soil, reducing runoff to sidewalks and adjacent properties.

Bohler’s landscape architects brought modern finishes to the project, setting a high standard for future developments along the block. Decorative bollards, a high-end bike rack, and state-of-the-art light fixtures will be featured along the site’s frontage.

Upon completion, Titan Union will feature ground floor retail, office space and a community center, as well as 43 apartments with a level of parking.
