Breaking Ground on Billionaires’ Row

Shovels are hitting the dirt for the development of a new luxurious skyscraper on Manhattan’s Billionaires’ Row.

Bohler Principal Joseph Deal, PE and Assistant Project Manager Jared Jones, PE joined developer Savanna Real Estate Fund, architect Perkins Eastman and other project team members at the groundbreaking of 106 W. 56th Street.

The 90,000-SF, 26-story Class A boutique office tower rises over 400 feet tall and is slated for 2019 completion. The skyscraper features ascending setbacks along the façade for outdoor terraces, offering stunning views of Central Park. Bohler provided civil engineering and permitting services on the high-profile project.

Pedestrians walking by 106 W. 56th Street in the winter months won’t need to worry about slipping on snow and ice. The design incorporates heated sidewalks, an amenity rarely seen in New York City given the complicated approvals required. In order to install the snowmelt system, Bohler’s permitting team coordinated extensively with New York City’s Department of Transportation to obtain a revocable consent permit. The permit requires a challenging approval process that comes with constructing on or under city-owned property.

Intricate Agency Coordination

Our permit specialists and engineers collaborated with agencies and Manhattan borough offices to develop filing strategies to assist in making the vision for 106 W. 56th Street come to life. These agencies included Con Edison, Department of Buildings, Department of Transportation (Revocable Consent; Sidewalk, Curb, and Roadway Application (SCARA); Builders Pavement Plan (BPP), and the Parks Department.
