Engaging Tomorrow’s STEM Leaders

Building the industry’s next generation of engineers begins early in their development. Bohler’s teams are passionate about engaging the youth within our communities, sharing our knowledge and experiences, and inspiring them to pursue STEM careers.

In several recent opportunities, our engineers spoke with students in the Mid-Atlantic and Texas regions about civil engineering and the work we do.

STEM Talk in Texas

In Dallas, Frisco’s mayor engaged Bohler’s Texas team in leading a fifth-grade field trip to Sci-Tech Discovery Center, an educational center that seeks to inspire an interest in STEM. Bohler Design Engineer Caleb Jones led an interactive presentation about civil engineering and guided students in constructing bridges from gumdrops and toothpicks.

Career Day in D.C.

Bohler Associate Michael O’Hara recently participated in a career fair at Marie H. Reed Elementary School in Washington, D.C. He interacted with students as young as three about civil engineering using project renderings and sample site plans to illustrate an engineer’s role in the development process. Michael fielded student questions about his education, career and current role.

Teaching the Ambitious in Maryland

For the second year in a row, Senior Project Manager Christopher Rizzi hosted a group of high school juniors and seniors at Bohler’s Bowie, MD office. The students participate in the Youth Leadership Bowie Initiative, which identifies ambitious students at high schools across the region and provides opportunities for them to learn more about local careers. Chris joined developer Andrew Roud of St. John Properties in speaking with the students about development and consulting services in the land development industry and sharing their respective career paths. The students had the opportunity to visit an active Bohler-St. John Properties project, and apply the knowledge they learned with hands-on activities.
