Legacy Square Breaks Ground in Union County, NJ

13 June, 2018

A recent groundbreaking for a Walmart jump-started the construction of Legacy Square, a shopping center coming to Linden, NJ. The shopping center will consist of 450,000 SF of retail space, with three anchors including Walmart and six pad sites. Bohler provided civil engineering, permitting, and surveying services for the project.

Legacy Square has been long-awaited by the community, as it lies on the site of a former General Motors automotive plant that has been vacant for over 10 years. The 104-acre car manufacturing site qualifies as one of the largest brownfield redevelopments in New Jersey.

A portion of the site has already been redeveloped with Bohler project Legacy Commerce Center, which opened in 2014 and consists of two warehouses with 990,000 SF of industrial space on 45 acres. Bohler provided civil engineering, master planning, permitting, surveying, and landscape architecture services for the project.

In addition to Legacy Square and Legacy Commerce Center, Bohler has also worked on two projects adjacent to this site. Our extensive knowledge and familiarity with the site and surrounding community proved invaluable to the success of the project.

Legacy Square will provide much-needed commercial and retail space and will benefit the city with the creation of new jobs. Legacy Square is one of a handful of developments that broke ground recently in Linden, which has become one of the most active cities in the county for development.
