Event Recap: NAIOP DC/MD’s A Seat at the Table with Prince George’s Countywide Planning

Bohler’s Bowie, MD team recently hosted Prince George’s County leaders, NAIOP DC|MD members, and land development industry players in a conversation surrounding the modernization of the Prince George’s County Zoning Ordinance. Organized by the NAIOP DC|MD Leadership Committee, the roundtable discussion provided an opportunity to involve the local land development community in the proposed changes.

As the county with the most undeveloped land within 10 miles of the Nation’s Capital, Prince George’s County recognized the need to revamp its zoning ordinances. The extensive zoning code re-write, which was introduced earlier this year, will significantly simplify the code to incentivize growth and development for years to come.

Spearheading the rewrite, Andree Green Checkley, Director of the Prince George’s County Planning Department of the Maryland National Capital Park, and Derick Berlage, Chief of Countywide Planning, engaged attendees in an open dialogue surrounding the new code prior to the official vote in October.

With longstanding ties to the NAIOP DC|MD organization, Bohler welcomed the opportunity to host this important event. “It’s a way to extend our support to County leadership for help and guidance along the way,” said Bohler Principal and NAIOP DC|MD Leadership Committee Member Matt Jones. The sold-out event offered an invaluable opportunity for County officials and the land development community to work together in promoting Prince George’s County’s vision for smart growth.
