Sustainable Residence Hall at Wheaton College to Open for Fall Semester

One of the first in Massachusetts to meet the Passive House Institute of US (PHIUS) rigorous energy-efficiency standards, Wheaton College’s newest residence hall is fully equipped with sustainable systems including air-to-water heat pumps and a shower drainwater heat-recovery system to capture and re-use heat from showers.

In addition to the building’s interior features, Bohler’s civil engineering and landscape architecture teams contributed to the project’s sustainability by incorporating grass pavers, low maintenance plantings, and a stormwater management design that allows runoff to flow over grassed channels instead of directly routing underground to the public system.
