Ivy Square Brings Affordable Housing to Bridgeton, NJ

25 July, 2019

Built in the 1960’s, Ivy Square in Southern New Jersey was in desperate need of modernization. Now, the restored residential community will open next week, meeting a critical need for affordable housing in the community and preserving it for years to come.

After acquiring the 156-unit affordable housing community in 2017, WinnCompanies, a national multifamily development and management company based in Boston, put a plan in place to upgrade the development and improve the quality of life for residents, while committing to offer housing for all income levels for the next three decades.

The multi-phase project involved refurbishing eight existing residential buildings on a seven-acre site. As part of the project, five of the eight buildings were modified to include ADA units, and ten units have been reserved for special needs housing. A new 3,500 SF community building and playground will also add space for resident activities.

Bohler provided design and permitting services for the $18.7 million rehabilitation initiative. Senior Project Manager Brad Thompson and Bohler’s New Jersey-based teams helped transform the site by adding sidewalks and ADA modifications that improve accessibility and circulation on the site for pedestrians. Our team’s work also included upgrading the site’s existing utilities and stormwater management.

Bohler helped WinnCompanies modernize the community and better serve residents by bringing new life to the dilapidated complex. Between offering affordable housing, special needs housing, and invaluable community spaces, Ivy Square is delivering an improved quality of life for residents.
