New ‘Arts and Entertainment District’ Set for Montclair

12 December, 2018

The redevelopment of Seymour Street, which broke ground this week, is Montclair, New Jersey’s highly anticipated and award-winning project that will bolster the township’s reputation as a hub for performing arts.

The three-acre, mixed-use district features 200 residential units, 32,000 SF of office space, 28,000 SF of restaurant space, a public plaza designed to resemble a musical wave, and multiple parking garages to rehabilitate underutilized property within the Downtown area. Additionally, 10,000 SF will be dedicated to the public for live performances, educational facilities and art galleries. Bohler Engineering provided civil engineering, surveying, and permitting services for the project.

The 96-year-old renowned Wellmont Theater will anchor this new ‘Arts and Entertainment District.’ The project also included additions to the parking available in the district, which was severely limited for the theater’s weekly shows. The approved improvements added 479 parking spaces, agreed upon after nine board hearings and the redesign of the initial building layout. The redevelopment received an Achievements in Planning Award by New Jersey Planning Officials.

Upon anticipated completion in August of 2020, Seymour Street will serve as a public gathering place for the ultimate entertainment experience.
