A new housing development is being proposed for a prominent site in Navy Yard, Washington, D.C., that would be totally affordable, a rarity in an area that has witnessed an influx of high-end apartments in recent years.

The NRP Group and the nonprofit Marshall Heights Community Development Organization are in the process of obtaining approval for a 127-unit building to be built between the Department of Transportation headquarters and The Yards. The development team, with the support of Bohler’s engineering and landscape architecture teams, submitted a Planned Unit Development application for the new building located at 101 Tingey Street SE. Bohler’s team also provided due diligence services, and supported the team’s DHCA submission.

Designed by Michael Graves Architecture, the community will include ground floor retail, bicycle parking, a community amenity space on the penthouse level, and an open plaza space along the eastern side of the building.

Next steps for the project include submitting a funding application and an anticipated hearing in December. Read more here and here.
