Recognized for its impactful transformation of a vacant retail site in DeWitt, NY, developer Brixmor Property Group was awarded the Town of DeWitt Planning Board’s Parratt-Schick Award of Excellence. Featuring chic architecture, a pedestrian-friendly layout, and high-end landscape designs, the Erie Canal Centre fully embodies the Town’s vision for revitalizing the area. Bohler collaborated with the project team and the Town to align redevelopment goals for the site and the greater community.

Brought in early to help navigate the Town’s challenging permitting process and elevated development standards, Bohler created an opportunity for Brixmor to add a quality asset to their portfolio while bringing vibrant new life to a deteriorating site. Preparing more than 50 concept plans throughout the project’s three phases, Bohler worked relentlessly to help the team identify the most effective layout to successfully reposition the center and create an upscale end-user experience.

As a liaison between the Town and Brixmor, Bohler collaborated to find solutions that aligned and achieved stakeholder goals. As a result, the Town now proudly points to the project as a model for future developments.

The 116,000-SF repositioning includes a Dick’s Sporting Goods, Burlington, and Michaels, as well as a 7,000-SF addition and new 5,000-SF pad site with a drive-thru for smaller retailers. The project incorporated overall improvements to the site such as improved circulation, relocation of a large storm sewer pipe, updated drainage systems, and luxurious landscape finishes including meandering pathways and seating areas. Bohler provided civil engineering, parking assessment, permitting, landscape architecture, and construction administration services for the project.
