Bohler Opens Doors to Engineering Careers Through Freire Schools Experienceship Program

August 2026

For many students, choosing a career path can feel like a decision made without knowing what a career actually looks like day to day. Bohler is helping change that by giving students the opportunity to experience the workplace firsthand through Freire Schools’ Experienceship Program.

This summer, Bohler partnered with Freire Schools’ career exploration program to welcome three students into our Philadelphia and Wilmington offices. Unlike a traditional internship, the Experienceship program is designed around career exploration. Students shadow professionals, observe their day-to-day responsibilities, ask questions, and gain a better understanding of potential career paths in a real-world setting.

Introducing Students to Careers in Engineering

Bohler employees served as mentors throughout the experience, sharing their expertise and giving students an inside look at site civil engineering and land development consulting.

In Philadelphia, Lindsey Breylinger and Matt Kearse mentored students and focused on helping them understand how their interests and strengths could translate into future careers.

“Students can observe professionals in action and gain a realistic understanding of what a job involves day to day,” Lindsey said. “This helps them determine whether a career aligns with their interests and strengths.”

For Matt, the experience was an opportunity to introduce students to the broader impact of engineering.

“I hope students take away that engineering is about much more than just crunching numbers,” he said. “It is a rewarding profession that allows you to solve real-world problems, make a meaningful impact, and help shape communities.”

For Corey Tieste and Maddie Day in Wilmington, the experience was about expanding a student’s view of what a career in engineering could look like. With no previous exposure to the industry, the student had an opportunity to discover a career path she may not have otherwise considered.

“Opportunities like this open up other options for someone who may not have given a lot of thought to their schooling or career, or who may not have liked the options they have been presented with so far,” Corey said. “It was rewarding to introduce her to what we do as civil engineers in land development.”

Investing in Students and Their Futures

The partnership reflects Bohler’s broader commitment to community engagement and creating meaningful opportunities for the next generation.

For the students who participated, the Experienceship was more than a visit to an engineering office. It was an opportunity to ask questions, meet professionals, see their work in action, and begin imagining what their own future could look like.

At Bohler, we believe that expanding access to these experiences can help students discover careers they may not have otherwise considered and empower them to become the accomplished professionals of tomorrow.
