In celebration of National Intern Day, we’re shining a light on a few members of our 2025 summer intern class. This year, 63 interns from 43 colleges joined teams across 31 Bohler offices.
Over the past few months, they’ve made meaningful contributions — learning CAD, joining site visits, building relationships, and developing new skills. We’re proud of their growth and grateful for the energy they’ve brought to our teams.
Now, a few of them are sharing reflections and takeaways from their time at Bohler.

They are all important to implement, but my top two are Build Relationships and Give It Your All. I came into this internship eager to learn and push myself to be the best I could be. I’ve also been building a lot of relationships with people in Bohler, which makes me feel like I’m making an impact.
My favorite part has been learning AutoCAD and working with everybody in the Columbus office.
Rising senior at the University of Alabama
I chose to intern with Bohler because I was interested in design and wanted hands-on experience in land development. I like how this field gives you the opportunity to make a positive impact on the community through your work. I returned to Bohler for a second summer because I loved the firm’s values and the positive work environment!
My favorite part about interning at Bohler is the people I’ve been able to work with! I’m interning with the Washington, D.C., office this summer, and was with the Warrenton office last summer. Everyone I’ve worked with has been so encouraging and supportive, which has made my internship a great experience.

It’s hard to choose just one, as many aspects of The Bohler Way have shaped my experience. However, building relationships, being bold, and having fun stand out the most. This role has allowed me to connect with everyone in the Melville office, as well as external contacts. I’ve learned that networking is key to making the most of my internship, and doing so with confidence and enthusiasm truly reflects The Bohler Way.
One of the most surprising things I’ve learned is how much coordination and detail go into each project. While I had a general understanding of permits and regulations beforehand, I quickly realized that every aspect of a project follows a unique and complex process that can vary significantly by location. This deeper understanding has given me a greater appreciation for the level of precision and collaboration required in the field.
Rising senior at Virginia Tech
I made the decision to intern with Bohler for a few reasons. Career-wise, I was interested in land development and wanted the opportunity to explore a new area of engineering. I chose Bohler because of the people I met during the interview process. It was clear that people who work at Bohler care about their jobs, their coworkers, and the work that they do. That authenticity is what made me choose this internship.
Something interesting I’ve learned is how to connect the design side of engineering with fieldwork. Before Bohler, my experience was mostly in the field. During this internship, I’ve focused more on design work, but I’ve also been on a few site visits. Those visits helped bridge the gap in my understanding between what I see in CAD and what’s happening on the ground.
Rising senior at Penn State University
One element of The Bohler Way that best represents my experience is tenacity. From the start of my internship, one of my main goals was to fully engage in everything Bohler and New York City had to offer. I’ve taken part in various site visits, contributed to multiple projects alongside different engineers, and consistently sought opportunities to learn and grow.
During my internship, I learned how to develop concept plans and create plan sets, an experience that was both engaging and rewarding. These tasks helped me discover useful shortcuts and techniques that deepened my understanding of Civil 3D. I also found it fascinating to learn more about Bohler and the range of services the company provides. One of the most valuable pieces of advice I received was to pay close attention to the company culture. Throughout my internship, I truly enjoyed being part of a collaborative, fast-paced, and positive team environment.
Rising senior at the University of Central Florida
My favorite part has been interacting with my coworkers every day. I learn the most when I ask them about their role in projects, and everyone is eager to share interesting information that deepens my understanding of land development. I also really enjoy our office events, like our board game night, which have helped me get to know my coworkers better!
The people element of the Bohler way has been an important part of my experience so far. Positive interactions with leaders and my peers have been key to building relationships, encouraging me to learn and ask questions, and helping me feel empowered to be bold in my role.
