An expansion of the Case Farms Processing Plant in Winesburg, Ohio has received a 2022 ENR Midwest Best Projects Award of Merit from Engineering News Record (ENR).

Constructed by design-build contractor Primus Builders, the project was delivered four weeks ahead of the original completion date, in two concurrent phases – a 36,000-SF chicken processing facility and a 138,000-SF cold storage warehouse.

The project team, including site civil engineers from Bohler’s Pittsburgh office, tackled mine spoils discovered during sitework and significant utility upgrades to bring the expansion to life on time. The expansion required two wells, four pumps, and two 300-gallon tanks to supply enough water to the facility. To meet power needs, the team coordinated electric power from two substations temporarily until a new substation dedicated to the facility could be completed. Bohler provided site civil engineering design and permitting services for the project.

In addition to the Award of Merit, the project tallied a perfect safety record, with no OSHA recordable incidents and no lost-time accidents, earning it an Excellence in Safety award.
