Bohler Names Dan Duke President and CEO as Part of Long-Planned Leadership Transition

HERNDON, V.A. – September 3, 2026 – Bohler has named Dan Duke, the firm’s Chief Operating Officer, as its next President and CEO, effective January 1, 2027. He succeeds Adam Volanth, who will retire at the end of 2026 after 34 years with the firm, including 12 years as President and CEO. Matt Smith, currently Managing Partner of the firm’s Northeast Division, will succeed Duke as Chief Operating Officer.

The transition is the result of a succession plan that Bohler’s leadership team has been developing for several years to ensure long-term continuity for clients, employees, and the business. It also reflects a defining characteristic of the firm: Bohler remains independently owned and led by people who built their careers here. At a time when many engineering firms are being acquired or consolidated, Bohler continues to invest in developing leaders from within and creating a clear path for the next generation of ownership and leadership.

Under Volanth’s leadership, Bohler expanded from 13 offices to 36 and more than tripled revenue. His commitment to developing people and creating opportunities for others strengthened the firm’s leadership and ownership pipeline, helping prepare Bohler for this transition while preserving the independence and culture that have defined its growth.

Duke joined Bohler in 1997 and has served in roles across nearly every level of the business. He began his career in Pennsylvania, helped build the firm’s Mid-Atlantic Division, led that division for more than a decade, and most recently has overseen firmwide operations as Chief Operating Officer.

From September 1 through December 31, 2026, Volanth and Duke will serve as Co-Presidents and Co-CEOs as leadership responsibilities transition ahead of Duke’s appointment on January 1, 2027.
