The 62-year-old Reisterstown Road Plaza shopping center is undergoing a significant transformation, thanks to the vision of Tide Realty Capital and a new Maryland state grant aimed at revitalizing the area. Construction has officially begun on the first phase of the project, which is expected to modernize the plaza and enhance its role as a community hub.

Initial work includes removing the iconic but outdated drum structure at the entrance, replacing it with a more conventional and contemporary town center gateway. Additional improvements in this phase involve repainting and refurbishing the central mall façade to create a fresh and inviting look.

Bohler’s Towson team is playing a key role in the project, providing site civil engineering design and permitting services for critical site improvements. Their work includes enhancements to parking areas, access roadways, lighting, landscaping, utilities, and stormwater management facilities. Additionally, plans include a new 8,720 SF multi-tenant retail and restaurant pad with a drive-through pickup window, requiring Conditional Use approval from the Board of Municipal and Zoning Appeals (BMZA).

The project received a $1 million boost from the Baltimore Vacants Reinvestment Initiative, a state program dedicated to addressing vacant or distressed properties in the City of Baltimore. The grant will help transform Reisterstown Road Plaza into a vibrant town center where residents can shop, work, play, and gather.

Construction on the plaza’s redevelopment is expected to take approximately eight to ten months to complete. Once finished, the revitalized shopping center will offer an improved experience for visitors and serve as a key anchor for the surrounding community. Learn more here and here.
