The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved conceptual development plans for McLean Crossing, a new mixed-use complex to replace the Commons of McLean apartments in Tysons Corner, Virginia.
Developer and property owner LCOR plans to develop up to 2.72 million square feet of residential, commercial, and retail space near the McLean Metro station. Plans for the project feature 11 buildings, with 2,536 residential units, including 231-319 subsidized workforce dwelling units (WDUs). Additional options include 600,000 square feet of office space, 350,000 square feet of retail, a 250,000-square-foot continuing care facility, and a 200-room hotel.
Bohler’s Herndon team supported the project by providing surveying, site civil engineering, and consulting services, which were critical in obtaining the necessary approvals for rezoning. These services played a vital role in navigating the complex entitlement process and ensuring the project aligned with community and regulatory requirements.
Approximately one-third of the site will be open space, including 6.8 acres of publicly accessible urban parks and a new full-sized athletic turf field dubbed Goodman Field planned for Fairfax County Park Authority operation.
The project received support from the McLean Citizens Association and the Fairfax County Planning Commission. Local leaders praised the extensive community feedback and highlighted the benefits of new amenities, including the workforce housing and open spaces.
