Populous, a world-renowned architecture firm based in Kansas City, has revealed plans to renovate Belmont Park, a historic horse-racing track in Nassau County, New York.

The project aims to modernize the complex, add contemporary amenities, and transform it into a multi-purpose venue for various events. Bohler’s Long Island team is providing site civil engineering design and permitting for the project, having previously collaborated with Populous on the UBS Arena at Belmont.

The redevelopment includes replacing the existing structure with a new five-story grandstand while maintaining the current seating capacity of 50,000 seats. The design emphasizes flexibility to accommodate both racing and non-racing events, with a focus on creating public green spaces for the surrounding communities.

Additionally, the project involves renovating the clubhouse, barn, and backstretch areas, along with implementing flood mitigation strategies and improving security and technology infrastructure.

Demolition work started in March, and construction is expected to continue throughout 2025, with plans to reopen Belmont Park in September 2026. The project, estimated to generate $155 million in economic output annually, aims to enhance the park as a community asset while revitalizing its legacy. Read the full story here.
