Construction is underway on a four-story, 60-unit apartment building with 1,100 SF of retail space in Torrington, CT. The riverfront property is part of the City’s ongoing revitalization of Franklin Plaza, and is a Brownfields redevelopment.  Bohler’s West Hartford team is providing master planning, civil engineering, and permitting services for the project, which is expected to be completed in June 2022.

Developer Pennrose envisioned a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly environment that connects the community to downtown attractions. They have worked closely with the city to connect the site to the Torrington Trails Network. Pennrose will also incorporate affordable housing into the redevelopment and use passive house technology in the building.

“It’s about having people on the street, using the resources. There are great resources on Main Street; theater, galleries, restaurants,” Charlie Adams, Pennrose Vice President of Development, recently told The Register Citizen. “We’re hoping [new residents] will all support that activity.”

“It’s great to see this brownfields parcel being redeveloped, and we’re excited that we had the opportunity to incorporate the Naugatuck Valley Greenway trail,” Bohler Associate Geoff Fitzgerald, PE, ACIP, said of Bohler’s involvement in the project. “It’s going to be a great place to live within walking distance of historic downtown.”
