Fielding New Life for Former RFK Stadium Parking
Once home to tailgating fans, the former parking lots of RFK Stadium have been transformed into a vibrant new community space. As part of Events DC’s 190-acre redevelopment plan, The Fields at RFK Campus delivers long-awaited recreational facilities to the surrounding neighborhoods. The 27-acre first phase — featuring three lighted turf soccer fields, bleachers, a playground, picnic areas, and a community pavilion — was brought from concept to completion in just 12 months.
Surveying the Foundation for Redevelopment
To help move this ambitious project forward, Bohler provided land surveying services during the due diligence phase. Accurate, reliable survey data was critical to understanding existing site conditions, including elevations, boundaries, and infrastructure remnants from the former stadium parking lot.
This early surveying work helped inform the project team’s design and grading approach —supporting efforts to reuse portions of the existing pavement structure, integrate new drainage systems, and meet aggressive schedule demands.
Supporting a Vision for the Future
The Fields represents the first step in transforming the RFK Campus into a multi-phase destination for recreation and community gathering. By providing the foundational survey data to guide design and construction, Bohler helped set the stage for this milestone project and the continued revitalization of one of Washington, DC’s most iconic sites.
