The Crossings at Brick Church Station Honored with APA New Jersey Great Places Award

January 2026

The Crossings at Brick Church Station, a transformative mixed-use, transit-oriented development in East Orange, has been recognized with the American Planning Association New Jersey Chapter’s Great Places Award, an honor celebrating downtowns, neighborhoods, streets, and public spaces of exemplary character, quality, and planning.

Developed by Triangle Equities and Incline Capital, The Crossings is redefining the Brick Church Station area with a vibrant live-work-play environment anchored by direct NJ Transit rail access, new housing, and community-serving retail. The recently launched first phase, known as Embark at The Crossings, includes 400 apartments with modern amenities, sustainability-focused design, and immediate access to Midtown Manhattan, along with a retail component anchored by a full-service ShopRite.

Bohler’s New Jersey team is providing site civil engineering, permitting, and landscape architecture services for the redevelopment. Working closely with Triangle Equities and Incline Capital, Bohler helped author the redevelopment plan for the entire city block and presented it to key city and state agencies, including the City of Orange, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and New Jersey Transit. The team’s design approach preserves the historic Brick Church train station while creating a more efficient, connected city center. Bohler’s landscape architecture team designed the project’s central promenade, plaza, and streetscape to encourage pedestrian walkability and reduce overall vehicle traffic congestion.

APA New Jersey’s Great Places in New Jersey program recognizes places that represent the gold standard in placemaking — demonstrating a strong sense of place, cultural and historical significance, meaningful community involvement, and a clear vision for the future. The Crossings was selected for its thoughtful integration of housing, retail, transit access, and public spaces, and for its role in advancing inclusive, community-centered redevelopment.

At full build-out, The Crossings at Brick Church Station will deliver approximately 1,000 homes and more than 200,000 square feet of retail, transforming the former Brick Church Plaza site into a vibrant neighborhood hub that strengthens East Orange and the surrounding region.
