Following renovations to modernize a previously underutilized retail center on Frederick Ave., developers Granite Canyon Partners and KLNB are celebrating a major milestone with the grand opening of Aldi.

While there’s still more in store for the 100,000 SF Walnut Hill Shopping Center, opening the 32,000 SF grocery store known for quality low-price shopping will attract marketplace consumers for the local community and surrounding Montgomery County residents.

Before renovations could begin, the property that previously bordered the City of Gaithersburg boundary required annexation from Montgomery County into the City. Bohler’s Gaithersburg team strategically supported this process, working with the developer, City Planning Commission, City Council, Montgomery County Planning Board, and the Mayor to receive unanimous approval.

Renovations to the 8.275-acre site include enhancements to the parking lot, new dedicated EV charging stations, sidewalk improvements, open space design, updated parking lot green areas and landscaping, ADA accessibility improvements, circulation plans, and exterior building improvements.

Bohler is providing site civil engineering, survey services, permitting, and landscape architecture services for the ongoing shopping center improvements.
