QCells to Supply Solar Panels to Microsoft

11 January, 2024

QCells has announced a massive supply agreement with Microsoft for 12 gigawatts of American-made solar panels through 2032.

The deal, one of the largest ever of its kind, will help Microsoft achieve its goal of 100% renewable energy by 2025. The partnership will increase Microsoft’s total commitment to 12 gigawatts, enough to power about 1.8 million homes. The collaboration aims to establish a solar supply chain in the US to compete with China, as most panels assembled in the US use components made in Asia.

The solar panels will be manufactured in QCells’ new $2.5 billion factory in Cartersville, GA. To support the manufacturing operations, Hanwha, a subsidiary of QCells, is establishing an adjacent 800,000 SF facility to produce the encapsulant film used on the solar panels. Bohler’s Atlanta team is providing site civil engineering and permitting services for the facility.
