Wheaton Revitalization Project Recognized by ENR MidAtlantic

In Wheaton, MD, the Wheaton Revitalization Project has been awarded the Merit Award by Engineering News-Record (ENR) MidAtlantic in the Government Public Buildings Category. Bohler led the site plan approvals, surveying, and site civil engineering for the project, which included major infrastructure and complex stormwater management systems.

The ENR Regional 2021 Best Projects Awards program honors outstanding construction projects and the companies that designed and built them. Through evaluation by independent juries of industry leaders in design and construction, projects are judged in five criteria including safety, innovation, and teamwork.

The Wheaton Revitalization project is a Public-Private-Partnership (PPP), in which the private and public sectors came together to transform an under-utilized property into a 14-story office building with ground-floor retail, an underground parking garage, an urban park with an amphitheater and plaza, and enhanced pedestrian access to the Metro station. The PPP project required extensive coordination between many stakeholders, community members, and municipal agency staff.

While the project served to consolidate Montgomery County agencies and provide Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) with a new headquarters, the Wheaton Revitalization ultimately transformed the neighborhood, improved Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility, and added approximately 300 public parking spaces. Bohler supported coordination and collaboration efforts by aligning stakeholders, ensuring nearly perfect plan sets, and creating a positive response throughout the community.
