Towson, MD: 2022 and Beyond

10 March, 2022

Development in downtown Towson, MD is booming. New residential, commercial, and mixed-use space is being brought to market every day. I recently joined a panel of industry experts at Crew Real Estate Women (CREW) Baltimore’s latest event, “Neighborhood Series – Towson,” to weigh in on what’s driving the revitalization of the Baltimore suburb and where it’s headed next.

Why Towson?

  • Diversity. Although known for being a “college town” with Towson University and Goucher College nearby, Towson is also home to a hospital, the headquarters for a Fortune 500 company, and numerous residential neighborhoods. This variety of development attracts residents of different ages and backgrounds, resulting in diverse local businesses as well.
  • Accessibility. With existing systems in place and plans to continue improving walkability, downtown Towson is easily accessible both on foot and via “The Loop,” a free bus service that connects commuters across the City.
  • Community Connection and Integration. The local Chamber of Commerce holds many successful events throughout the year. These events bring the community together, elevating local businesses and creating an environment in which retail can thrive.
  • Ideal Location.  Just 30 minutes north of Baltimore City, central to Harford and Howard Counties, and 30 minutes south of the Pennsylvania state line, Towson is easy to get to, creating a hub for residents, shoppers, and tenants who prefer this urban/suburban environment over the City of Baltimore.

What’s Next?

Commercial Real Estate Development in 2022 and Beyond

  • Improve Walkability and Connectivity. Real estate developers continue to connect the dots between communities, ultimately increasing support to local businesses. Local universities continue to develop their master plans, with a focus on connecting the campuses to the downtown area.
  • Growth. Whether it’s higher education, corporate expansion, or mixed-use flex space, adaptive growth is on the horizon. With Greenberg Gibbons’ Towson Row serving as an anchor, the door is wide open for smaller scale infill and continued land development and revitalization.

Through our team’s experience across downtown Towson, we understand the topographic challenges, as well as the overall development goals of the City and community. We’ve made a significant impact on numerous projects throughout Towson with our proof of partnership and ability to move projects forward faster.
