Andy Filcik Named to Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

Bohler is thrilled to announce that Andy Filcik, Sr. Landscape Architect in the Charlotte office, has been appointed to the Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

Representing District Five, South Region S1, Andy will serve a two-year term providing his expertise and insight into various community projects.

Andy’s responsibilities include attending neighborhood meetings and sessions with the County Board of Commissioners. As a liaison between the Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation Department and the Board of Commissioners, his role is to help ensure the quality, sustainability, and overall success of projects.

Enhancing the Community

Andy will evaluate the strength and feasibility of Charlotte Mecklenburg’s current and future parks and rec projects.  In this role, Andy will offer recommendations and insights when assessing whether projects should be approved or if they require redesign and further design. This collaboration among board members ensures that only well-considered and beneficial projects move forward, contributing positively to the community.

The types of projects Andy will be involved in cover pedestrian-related infrastructure, streetscapes, parks, trails, and greenways, aimed at enhancing pedestrian-friendly environments. Each project will focus on creating spaces that enrich the community and provide lasting benefits.

A Passion for Parks and Recreation

Andy’s extensive experience and passion for Parks and Recreation are evident. His dedication to designing parks, greenways, and civic spaces allows him to see the direct impact of his work on the community. “When you design a park or a greenway, you get to see the fruits of your labor. You witness the enjoyment and benefits people derive from these spaces,” Andy shares.

Creating Opportunity

Andy’s involvement in the advisory board will offer him a comprehensive view of the active projects in Mecklenburg County. This position provides him a deeper understanding of the Board of Commissioners’ perspectives, and the ability to observe their responses to various designs. This insight ultimately benefits Andy’s clients, giving them an advantage and enhancing the success of their projects.

Direct contact with the district commissioner will further enhance his ability to influence and understand the decision-making process. Moreover, Andy’s connections within the Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation community will be invaluable, fostering collaboration and ensuring our projects align with the community’s needs and expectations.
